Artwork
This is a gallery of my recent artwork along with a few old favorites.
Most of it features characters and scenes from my written work, but it also includes some original images.

PetThis was the original character sketch I did when coming up with the idea for Pet. It looks a bit different from the cover art eventually used for the book, but the spirit of the character remains the same. At the time of drawing this I was toying with the idea of a story with dual timelines, so the picture shows a version of Pet from each timeline. | At the Gravity WellWhen I made this picture I had already written the rough draft of The Gravity Well scene in The Fourth State of Matter, but I was still having troubling envisioning the environment. So I put in on paper (or on screen technically). Plus drawing Pet pole dancing is just plain fun. | The DojoThe whole reason I started making this picture was to practice drawing scales. I drew the figure first, then when I went to make the background I realized I had no idea what kind of environment Desmodian would spend his time in, and I hadn't yet written the dojo scene in the book. Came up with something off the top of my head, and while I like it, I'm not sure how well it matches the book scene now. |

Peace in the GardenDrawing out Desmodian's personal space on the ship inspired me to then make Xavis's space. I had a lot of fun with all the plants, and it was also a chance to practice perspective drawing. The scene ended up being a lot brighter than I originally intended, but I like how it defies the expectations of what the inside of a spaceship looks like. | The AttackIn contrast to the previous image, this is a more traditional spaceship setting. I didn't make this picture until I'd already written the scene. It stayed stuck in my head even after I'd written it down, so I depicted it in images as well as words. I could not for the life of me get Pet's outfit right, so it looks a bit generic, but I like the lighting in this scene. | BrogThis close-up of Brog is one of the first things I drew when I started making the book trailer. I hadn't decided what I was going to do with it yet, but I knew this was a scene that would have to make an appearance in the trailer. |
DesmodianOnce I made a close up of Brog for the trailer, I figured I would make a close up of the rest of the trio as well. Desmodian here ended up being the easiest since most of it is taken up by his hammer. The hardest part was just getting the details of his mask right since it's such an important aspect of his character. | XavisMy computer kept crashing when I was trying to make this close up of Xavis. I got the wings finished as well as most of the body, before I had to take my computer into the repair shop. By the time I got it back my deadline for the trailer was almost here so I rushed to finish this picture. I'm still not happy with the placement of his hand, but at least the texture looks good. | Faces in FingerprintsThis is a really old picture I made years ago, but it's still one of my favorites. I made it out of fingerprints and an inkpad. |
Draped in DiamondsThis is a scene from the second book in The Valence Chronicles. I started the drawing intending to show a soft romantic scene, but the artwork had its own ideas. |
